Who is Salt City Steel?

Yo, I’m Weston Spencer, and I run Salt City Steel, a small family metal fab shop based in South Salt Lake City, Utah.

I’ve been in the metal fabrication world for over 20 years. I work full-time as a ski lift mechanic, and when I’m not doing that, I’m in the shop welding, building, and creating tools that make life easier for fabricators like me. My wife Emily and our three kids—Lulu, Eva, and Hank—are a big part of the shop too. It’s definitely a family operation.

When we’re not working, we’re usually off doing something outside—camping, fishing, skiing, biking, or finding some kind of adventure. We also spend a lot of time at the rink. Hockey’s a big part of our lives—we’ve got a couple of hockey players and a figure skater in the family, and we’re proud fans of Utah’s new NHL team, the Utah Mammoth.

The Picket Master Pro came from an idea I had after using a similar tool early in my career. I saw room for improvement and decided to design and build my own version. It worked so well I started making more—and now it’s being used in shops all over the world. Pretty cool how that turned out.
